Why Are There Metal Shavings in My Motor Oil?

We hate to say it but if you see metal shavings in your motor oil, your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s engine is disintegrating. There is no way to repair this problem. If you plan to keep the vehicle, we will have to replace the engine with a new one. This is just one sign that your engine needs to be replaced. Here are other signs that an engine replacement or rebuild is necessary.

Knocking All the Time

The engine in your automobile will knock all the time if the pistons are crashing against the cylinder walls. This is caused by worn rod bearings that can no longer push the rods to which the pistons are attached up and down evenly inside of the cylinders. Thankfully, if this is the only problem with your engine, we can repair it by partially rebuilding the cylinder block. This is still an extensive repair, but it does not require an entirely new engine.

No Longer Producing Power

One thing that does require an entirely new engine, however, is extensive power loss. When an engine wears down completely, it will no longer be able to produce power. Rebuilding the engine will not resolve the issue because it isn’t just one portion of the engine that has gone bad. Rather, the entire engine has gone bad and needs to be replaced. We can do this at our shop. We will help you get your hands on the engine you need for your automobile.

Overheating All the Time

An engine that overheats all the time may have a problem with the cooling system, a cracked head gasket, a cracked exhaust manifold, or a cracked engine block. We can repair all but the latter. A cracked engine block generally requires a new engine to fix the problem. If the cooling system is the problem, we can replace it. We can also replace the head gasket or exhaust manifold. We can get to the bottom of the overheating problem and let you know what it will take to fix it.

Finally, if your vehicle is producing too much exhaust, you have a serious fluid leak in the engine. Once we determine from where the fluid is leaking, we may be able to fix it by replacing a specific part or system. Either way, call us today to schedule a service visit for your automobile if you are having serious engine problems. We will either rebuild or replace your engine.
